Hey, I Want To Share An Idea With You!

For a while now I have been doing some serious thinking. Mostly it has been on the subject of New Years Goals and Intentions; read my last post to see what goals I settled on there.

The other thing I have been thinking about lately has been whether or not to attempt writing a book. Yes, I do want to write a novel one day or a memoir.

Those two choices would take a substantial amount of time and are more complex than I am thinking about committing to right now.

I need something to, in a sense, dip my toes in as an introduction to the world of writing. In the interim, I would like to try my hand at writing a children’s book.

childrens-books-1246675_1920

I am wondering how hard a market that would be to break into but it has all the hallmarks of a wonderful project.

Writing a children’s book would combine two of my passions in one project; writing and drawing. I would have to come up with an outline of something that would be of interest to children.

I would want to make it different enough to stand out against all the children’s books out there.

The beauty of a large picture book like this is that it would be fairly short but that being said I would want it to spark a child’s imagination even though it would be short.

The thing that really started to turn up the desire to do this was when my grandson came to visit us on Christmas Day.

This idea occurred to me a long while ago but Christmas Day intensified it and really brought home the immediacy of such a project.

This has to happen soon since my grandson will remain a little guy only for so long. Already at two and a half he is growing so fast and saying a few words now.

The window of opportunity to write for him is only so long. Even if my first book is written and illustrated just for him. I could write another to get published for the general public afterward.

How special would that be to have Grandma write a storybook just for you?

I wished with all my heart that I had a big beautiful book to share with him. I want him to enjoy reading as much as I do and the idea of writing a book for that purpose just inspires me.

I think of some of the great authors of children’s books like Dr. Seuss and Robert Munsch. That kind of great authorship is what I am shooting for!

Perhaps tomorrow will find me sitting down to sketch out a few ideas as to subject matter and a vague outline to flesh out.

One of my New Year Goals is to spend one day a week doing artwork or creative projects for either my YouTube channel or here on my blog or both!

Could this be the subject of my first weekly creative artwork I set for one of my goals this year?

What do you think about me doing this? Would you be interested in seeing some sketches and ideas as I work this out on paper and not just spinning around and around in my mind?

Your input and opinions would be most welcome as I try to figure out just what this book for Ethan would look like.

In order to fit this into the short window of opportunity I have to get it into my grandson’s hands I would have to actually produce a single true original book that I could then ship to him via the mail.

After this is accomplished I could then take the time and follow the proper steps to find a way to get a children’s book published for the public.

It might even help sell my idea to a publisher if I could point to the one I made for Ethan and how he responds to it.

The more I am sharing this idea with you all the more real it is becoming. It is no longer just a private thought in my mind. This desire, goal, intention is now out there and I find my pulse quickening a bit.

Yes, I am a little afraid as well as excited at the possibilities.

Will my drawings be good enough? What about the story or theme of the book, will it be something Ethan would want to have read to him? Or will he want to get down and play with his toys on the floor?

Would you let me know in the comments what your thoughts are? I know the decision is ultimately up to me but I guess what I am asking is would you be interested in seeing some ideas and sample drawings?

Do any of you out there have young children or grandchildren? If so what kinds of books are they interested in? Do they like stories or simple learning books on colors or the alphabet?

Thank you in advance for your responses. I appreciate everyone who stops by to read my blog and those that take the time to leave a comment to let me know they were here and what they think.

Have a wonderful day/night wherever you are! 🙂

How To Schedule Your Time: Making Your Days Count

diary-614149_1920

Hello, everybody, I have been struggling with this concept for a while now as you all know. I have both a YouTube Channel and this blog plus everyday life that I must juggle.

I decided to do some research on how to get myself on track and wanted to share with you what I found out.

Perhaps you could use some of this information in your life too and we could get ourselves better organized together.

Life is busy. Now there is an understatement if I ever heard one! There is so much to do that we must somehow find time to cram into our day if we want to get everything done.

The question is how? I found out the very first step to organizing your time is to make a list of all the things you want or need to accomplish.

We need to define the problem in order to find a solution.

Okay, here is what my list looks like; at least all that I can think of at this moment. I may add more items later if I suddenly remember more.

Make YouTube videos – various topics

Write posts for my blog -various topics

Practice my mandolin

Answer Emails (from YouTube and my blog)

Do dishes

Make the bed

Do laundry

Make meals

Sweep and wash the floors

Play with RCs (sometimes I want to just for fun and not always for videos)

Clean the church

Attend church

Read books

Surf the internet

Sleep

Phew!! I am getting exhausted just looking at that list; no wonder I have trouble getting it all done. Is your list as long as mine? Or longer?

time-1126254_1280

Next step? Prioritize; what must get done (needs) and what you want to do for yourself or others (wants)

the-action-plan-1429834_1920

NEED : Make YouTube videos -various topics

NEED: Write posts for my blog -various topics

NEED: Practice my mandolin

NEED: Answer Emails (from YouTube and my blog)

NEED: Do dishes

NEED: Make the bed

NEED: Do laundry

NEED: Make meals

NEED: Sweep and wash the floors

WANT: Play with RCs (sometimes I want to just for fun and not always for videos)

WANT: Clean the church

WANT: Attend church

WANT: Read books

WANT: Surf the internet

NEED: Sleep

All right, now we are getting somewhere. I have ten items on my NEED list and five items on my WANT list. It’s okay; no need to make sure there are even amounts on both lists.

Different activities take different amounts of time. Besides, I am sure you can expand your wants to fill any time not taken by your needs. LOL 😉

notes-514998_1920

Now we get down to the nitty gritty and figure out how long and how often each thing takes. An average is okay; no need to define your schedule down to the last minute or second.

It is not nice to put that much pressure on yourself!

NEED : Make YouTube videos -various topics  (this one varies as some videos are easier to make than others. I will call this 2 hours and it needs to happen every day). If I get a lot accomplished I will simply add them to scheduled videos and get ahead of the game.

NEED: Write posts for my blog -various topics (strangely enough this is the same as videos and I will schedule 2 hours every day for this one too). If I get a lot accomplished I will simply add them to scheduled posts and get ahead of the game.

NEED: Practice my mandolin (I should be practicing every day or two for 20 minutes to 30 minutes). Let’s call it 30 minutes for sake of fitting it into the schedule more consistantly.

NEED: Answer Emails (from YouTube and my blog) (I could easily spend hours upon hours keeping up with comments on both my channel and my blog but being reasonable I will devote 1 hour to this task every day so it doesn’t get backed up too far).

NEED: Do dishes (I do dishes once a day after dinner. They take 20 minutes to 30 minutes since I handwash – I don’t have a dishwasher).

NEED: Make the bed. (This one is easy – under five minutes and every morning when I get out of bed.)

NEED: Do laundry. (Usually I do laundry on weekends when hydro is cheaper but the odd weeknight I will have a load that I do at night after 7pm – again to save on hydro. Wash and dry  1 -1 1/2 hours).

NEED: Make meals ( Most meals I make take no longer than 30 minutes to cook and I do that  three times a day if I am lucky; quite often it is twice a day.)

NEED: Sweep and wash the floors (This chore takes me 1 hour and I do it once a week).

WANT: Play with RCs (sometimes I want to just for fun and not always for videos) (As I was saying when it comes to wants I could expand to whatever time is available to me). I would be happy with twice a week.

WANT: Clean the church (This happens once a week – usually on a Friday and it takes my husband and I 30 minutes to tackle all the chores together).

WANT: Attend church (Also once a week, from 11 A.M. – 12:30 P.M. every Sunday) This can expand to 10 A.M. – 12:30 P.M. when hubby is on stage and I run the soundboards to allow for setup time and brief rehearsal)

WANT: Read books (LOL, any chance I get and for however long I can. I have been known to read for hours at a time.)

WANT: Surf the internet  (same as above only surfing the net instead of reading books.)

NEED: Sleep (This has to happen every night. I try to get at least 6 hours of sleep).

office-620817_1920

Finally, we are at the stage of putting all of this planning down onto a weekly schedule. A quick chart to post on the fridge would be handy to keep things in mind as you go about your day.

If you work outside the home of course work will also be on your schedule and must be accounted for if you like to do things like eat and have a place to live.

A daytimer or appointment book is useful to keep tabs on what you need to do and when but also consider your smartphone. They are handy and can be set to vibrate or sound an alert when it is time to switch activities.

I believe I will be posting on the fridge and setting my smartphone up as reminders. That way wherever I am I will have my schedule with me.

So, in conclusion, I have tallied up the figures on the various things I need to get done and I can get it all done in 14 hours per day and that includes my 6 hours of sleep a night.

Out of a 24 hour day that leaves me with 10 hours to sprinkle in some “me time” and the things I want to do; that make me happy and fulfilled as a person.

I have just set up all of the “events” on my phone. I now have the times blocked out and can see that there are gaps of an hour here and there throughout in which I can choose to do something off my wants list.

I am not putting down anything in particular for these times but instead will allow myself to gravitate toward whatever I feel like at the time.

This way my wants won’t become another “chore”.

I will write another post to update you on how things are working out for me in about a months time.

That gives me four weeks to get into the routine of things and accurately judge how well it is working; productivity wise and satisfaction wise.

There is one thing I would like to know; if you would be so kind as to leave me a comment, do you have a schedule to get everything done or do you fly by the seat of your pants as I have been doing all this time?

Thank you for once again visiting my blog to read my thoughts today. I do appreciate all the support, my friends. 🙂

Welcome to Lake Susan!

sweating-girl

Today’s post was inspired by a prompt from 365 Days Of Writing Prompts.

Feed your senses

Write down the first sight, sound, smell, and sensation you experienced on waking up today. Pick the one you’re most drawn to, and write. (For a bigger challenge, pick the one you’re least drawn to.)

The first sensation I experienced on waking up this morning  was sweating and it happens far too often. My husband jokingly refers to me as a lake, hence the title of this post, and I can’t say that he is wrong.

Unfortunately, I have reached that stage in life known as menopause. As women, we all go through it at some point either naturally or as a result of surgery or chemotherapy among other reasons.

I have been dealing with this for a long time now but lately, the menopausal symptoms are getting worse. I think it is time to go see my doctor.

I have been doing a lot of research on the internet. Not to worry, I know some trusted websites to check for medical related information.

Here’re a couple of the ones I use, as an example:

WebMD and MedBroadcast

You can’t believe everything you read or see on the internet and it is important to only consider trusted websites. I cannot stress that enough.

Too many people fall victim to bad advice and quack cures on the internet because they are too trusting. It is important to always check what you are reading with your physician.

Trusted websites are ones that are not only updated regularly but are overseen by medical personnel.

They also tell you something like this (this example is from the MedBroadcast site I have linked above.)

By far sweating is my biggest complaint about menopause. Sweating during the day is bad enough but at night the sheets, my pillow, and everything get drenched.

Combined with that is my Type 2 Diabetes which means I get up at least once in the night to pee. That is a pain in the neck enough with disrupted sleep but coming back to a cold, wet bed is beyond horrible.

I have used bath towels on top of the soaked sheets and pillows to avoid disturbing my husband in order to change the bedding.

I have been washing all my bedding including pillows so often that I fear it is wearing them out or wearing out my laundry machines or both.

Some of the articles I have read say that menopause is different for every woman. Symptoms could go from almost not evident to being so severe as to be debilitating.

Oh, how I wish mine were at the other end of the scale. Unfortunately, my symptoms are registering more toward the debilitating end of the scale.

I am also wondering if this is part of menopause, or maybe it is the Type 2 Diabetes, does anyone else sweat after eating?

I mean, seriously, my arms, legs, head, neck, everywhere is covered in sweat. It reminds me of something I learned about cars or vehicles in general I suppose.

It is called heat soak and that is what it feels like is happening to me. With heat soak, when the vehicle is parked after being driven for a while it will continue to heat up.

No longer being driven means the radiator fan is no longer running and the rad fluid is no longer circulating to cool the engine down; therefore the heat builds up.

When I am no longer eating I can feel the heat build up in me. It is a totally weird feeling and one I think I should mention to my doctor.

Maybe he can explain what this mystery is to me.Thankfully the after eating thing doesn’t last too long before it dissipates.

All I know for sure is that I have to get this figured out and get some help with the symptoms because they are driving me crazy.

Do any of the women reading this post have issues like this? Can you relate? What did you do to get through it?

I would really appreciate any help or suggestions if you would like to leave them in the comments section.I do understand if you don’t feel like sharing details like that in the comments section. Thanks 🙂

For the men who read my blog posts: Sorry for dragging you into female territory today but the prompt lead me to this topic when it asked for the first sensation I felt when I woke up today.

I do appreciate my male audience, very much so, you guys rock! I promise my next post won’t be so uncomfortable for men to read. 🙂 Thanks for bearing with me if you have read this far.

Where Do You Go To Get A Clone Made?

Today’s post is thanks to the inspiration taken from one of the 365 Days Of Writing Prompts

Clone wars: If you could clone yourself, how would you split up your responsibilities?

clones

My husband would love the topic of this post.  I am quite sure he thinks that would be just wonderful; though not for the same reasons as I would.

Before I get into the splitting up of responsibilities I think we should consider for a moment what it would be like living with another you.

I mean, how crazy would it be to see an exact copy of yourself sharing the house with you and your spouse? Come to think of it would your spouse know which one is the original you?

From the question, I am of the understanding that this clone would be a real live human being made from your DNA. We are not talking about robots here after all.

Imagine, an exact replica human being that looks like you acts like you and talks like you.  I am not sure I could deal with seeing myself from the outside like that and telling myself what to do.

This would certainly be a weird dynamic to wrap your head around and it would take a great deal of adjustment in order to get used to the realities of what that situation would entail.

Would the clone you have the same thoughts and feelings as you do? Would the clone me react the same way as I would when it comes to being the house drudge who does all the cooking and cleaning?

I guess it boils down to the specifics of just what a clone is versus what we are. We are born and grow up going through experiences  that change who we are and how we see the world.

We learn as we go and that changes how we interact with other people and helps us form opinions of what goes on in our surroundings.

Does a clone? Would you have to wait for a clone to grow from embryo to adulthood and if so would that not bring about a fundamental difference from the original?

They would be growing up in the present day instead of being born in 1961 like I was. Right there, things would be different experientially.

If I had to wait for my clone to grow up to the age I am now it would take 54 years and I would likely be dead before that happened or somehow miraculously be 108 years old!

On the other hand, if clones could be produced to be an exact replica much like making a photocopy of the original; BAM, Susan #2 fully grown and able to share my closet full of  clothes. That, my friends, would be a different story.

minion-1724905_1920

I think I might even get a little jealous that the second me got to take the easy way, a shortcut if you will, to getting to where I am now.

No dealing with going to school and nor having her heart broken over and over would certainly be easier.

But, if our cumulative experiences help to shape who we are this would mean my clone would be nothing like me except maybe in looks.

Okay, let’s suppose that a clone is somehow exactly like you in every way; looks, personality, attitudes, etc. How would I split the responsibilities?

This could be fun; not having  been able to dictate to anyone before. I don’t have to care how she feels about what I assign to her either, right?

Obviously, I would task her with all the cooking and cleaning. I would also get her to mend our clothes when they needed it. She would shovel the walkway clear of snow in the winter too.

In fact, she would get all the boring, repetitive, tedious jobs that are usually part of my bailiwick. This would leave me free to enjoy life for a change.

I could spend time reading, indulging in my artwork and perhaps learn a new technique or two. I would now have time to not only write my blog but produce videos for my YouTube channel too.

I think a nap every afternoon would be in order as well. I mean, why not? My life would become one of leisure and I wouldn’t feel taken for granted when it comes to keeping this household running every day.

Hubby and I could curl up on the couch and watch movies to our heart’s content as we like to do currently without one or both of us falling asleep midway through the movie like we do currently.  😉

Wait a minute…something I haven’t considered yet. Put the brakes on this whole clone thing until we get this clearly understood.

The clone would not have anything to do with my husband. I mean nothing; I can be very jealous when it comes to that sort of thing. That would be a deal breaker for sure.

Where would Susan #2 sleep anyway? I suppose we could find a closet to put a rollaway cot in if it comes to that.

rough-sleep

It would be creepy to relegate my doppelganger to that extreme of sleeping quarters but let’s face it lines have to be drawn and boundaries firmly established.

You know what? Let’s just call this whole clone experiment off. It is stressing me out too much just thinking of all the ramifications.

stop-1715720_1920

I can only imagine living with this situation. As nice as the idea of getting out of all this work is in theory, I think I would rather remain in control, thank you very much!

How about you, my friends? Would you get a clone? How would you deal with this or would you? Would you welcome a clone of yourself into your home?

Please let me know in the comments. I am curious as to what the consensus is out there in cyberspace. My thanks to you, as always, for stopping by to read my thoughts here today.

Two Heads Are Better Than One

articulated-male-818202_960_720

Have you ever heard of that saying up there? Yes, the title of this post, that saying. It is true, you know, two heads are often better than one and sometimes more than two heads are ideal. I am talking about all kinds of situations where you really do need more input or information than what is rattling around in your own brain.

There are times in this life where another person’s viewpoint has value like when you are struggling with a decision or trying to figure out how to handle a situation. Those other heads I am talking about can be the ones on all kinds of people. They can be close to you such as family or friends or they could be from a much broader sampling of people like a poll on the internet, or they could be a professional such as a therapist, doctor or psychiatrist.

Sometimes you don’t require an answer from them at all. Sometimes you just need a sounding board, hearing yourself tell someone the problem you’re facing is often enough to allow you to work out the solution for yourself. Again, that could be anyone from a close friend you can trust and confide in to a professional therapist who can give you the guidance you need at that moment or in that situation.

You must carefully consider who to seek out when you want to share something that is troubling you. Is the problem benign, like trying to decide on what to have for dinner? A friend or dinner companion is the perfect choice to consult for this type of problem. If the problem is of a more emotional and heavy sort, like trying to figure out how to go on when you lose a significant relationship or if you are having a hard time dealing with the death of someone close to you…well, for that you really should seek professional counsel. Your friends may be too close to the situation or not know what to say, how to best help you.

Recently I had the honor of helping my sister figure out a certain problem. Let me tell you, it is very satisfying when you can help someone put their mind at ease and make a decision that they feel good about. Most of this post has been from the viewpoint of being the person with the issue but I wanted to show this process from the other side as well. If you can be one of those other heads that someone needs be it a sounding board or fellow brainstormer it is indeed an honor. It means they value your opinion and feel open enough to share their dilemma with you. Never be afraid to suggest seeking out a professional if you feel unequipped to deal with what they are telling you. This can be life saving, life altering advice when it is necessary.

Thanks for visiting my blog my friends. I value each and every one of your heads and would love to hear what you are thinking. Please feel free to leave a comment or question for me. I try to get to each and every one I receive. If you know someone who needs to see this please share it with them. Thanks as well to my sister, Karen, for suggesting I write a post on this subject…turns out I had a lot to say about it after all. LOL =)
